Niger first lady flags off free medical outreach, surgeries in state
The wife of the Niger State Governor, Hajiya Fatima Bago, says her office remains committed to providing free medical healthcare to the people, especially the less privileged, across the 25 local government areas of the state.
Bago made the commitment while flagging off the free medical outreach and surgeries for the beneficiaries in Edati local council of the state on Thursday, 6th February 2025, at the premises of the primary healthcare center in Enagi.
The exercise is expected to run for three days, with the first phase of beneficiaries drawn from Edati.
The Niger First Lady explained that the initiative, in collaboration with the non-governmental organisation, Graceland Health Care Development Foundation, was aimed at extending generosity to the people and lauded the foundation for its commitment to improving lives through healthcare services.
She noted that healthcare should never be a luxury; it is a necessity, a right.
She said, “The good people of Edati community, this initiative is for you. Please, take full advantage of it and encourage your family and friends to do the same, adding that health is one of the greatest gifts we can cherish.”

Hajiya Fatima disclosed that the free medical outreach will provide free medical consultations, surgeries, and 1,000 pairs of eyeglasses will also be provided free of charge to the beneficiaries of the pilot local government suffering from eye-related ailments.
Bago added: “We are giving people the opportunity to live healthier lives. This is how we build strong communities, by ensuring that no one is left behind, especially in matters as critical as health.”
She lauded Governor Muhammad Bago for his relentless efforts in transforming the health sector of the state.
Earlier in his remarks, the Commissioner for Local Government, Hamidu Jantabo, commended the wife of the governor for the initiative, adding that the programme will complement the landmark successes of the Bago Administration in the healthcare sector.
Jantabo maintained that the success of the exercise depends largely on the collective efforts of stakeholders.
The beneficiaries expressed delight over the gesture and thanked the governor’s wife for her concern for the less privileged in society.
