Nigerian police fired tear gas on Thursday to break up several hundred protesters rallying in Lagos and in the capital Abuja against the high cost of living, AFP correspondents at the scene said.
In Lagos, protesters tried to light bonfires outside the governor’s office and police responded with tear gas, driving many of the protesters back, an AFP reporter said. Police also fired tear gas in Abuja, where several hundred protesters were moving from a stadium to Eagles Square park.
