Goods and herbal products worth millions of naira have been destroyed following a fire outbreak at a storage facility in Oyo town, Oyo State. The Guardian gathered that the incident occurred on Saturday at Olanlokun Junction, Obabi Street, Old Cele Area in Oyo.
It was also learnt that the fire, which started around 10:00 a.m., at a building used as a storage facility for herbal products, raged for about two hours before it was finally put out.
Confirming the incident in a statement yesterday, the General Manager, Oyo State Fire Service, Mr Yemi Akinyinka said the incident was reported at about 10:39 a.m. on Saturday, April 5, 2025.
According to him, firefighters were promptly deployed to the scene and arrived at the scene by 10:45 a.m.
”On getting there, the crew found out that the fire had engulfed heaps of local herbs within the premises of a residential building used to store different local herbs.
“We swiftly commenced a firefighting operation and were able to curtail it from spreading to the main building and the nearby buildings.
“The agency’s officers saved properties worth several millions of naira. It took the service more than three hours before the fire was completely extinguished because it involved an accumulated heap of herbs for many years,” he said.
