Adamawa govt approves multi-billion naira contracts for infrastructure, digital projects

The Adamawa State Executive Council has approved a series of multi-billion-naira contracts for the renovation, construction, and upgrade of key government institutions and infrastructure across the state.

The approvals were granted during the Council’s 20th meeting for 2025, held at the Government House, Yola, and presided over by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri.

Briefing journalists after the meeting, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Illiya James, said the projects reflect the government’s commitment to modernising public facilities and improving service delivery.

Among the major approvals, according to him, is the renovation and upgrade of the State Civil Service Commission complex at a total cost of ₦837 million.

The project, to be executed by three contractors within six months, includes remodeling, construction of an administrative block, gatehouse, new office block, generator house, ICT block, perimeter fencing, and external works.

The Council also approved the renovation of the Presidential Lodge at the Government House, Yola, at a cost of ₦279 million, as well as the construction of new facilities at the Adamawa State Independent Electoral Commission (ADSIEC) in two lots valued at ₦461 million, with a six-month completion timeline.

In addition, the Council ratified an earlier administrative approval by the governor for the payment of ₦396 million for 12,000 bags of NPK fertilizer allocated to the state by the Office of the National Security Adviser.

James said the fertilizer, purchased at a subsidised rate, will be distributed to farmers across the state.

The state government also approved phase one of the Adamawa Digital Academy project at a cost of ₦936 million, with a four-month completion period.

The project, according to the Special Adviser to the Governor on ICT, will include renewable energy infrastructure and broadband connectivity to support digital training and innovation.

Another set of construction works at ADSIEC, valued at ₦905 million, also received approval, along with ₦182 million for the construction of height restriction barriers and installation of signage at major flyovers in the state capital, including the Unity, Lamido Aliyu, and Mubi Roundabout flyovers.

The Council further approved the renovation of the State Liaison Office in Maitama, Abuja, in two lots at a total cost of ₦794 million, and additional works for the completion of the State House of Assembly office extension project valued at over ₦600 million.

Commenting on the significance of the projects, the Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Alhaji Abdullahi Adamu Pirambe, said the initiatives are part of Governor Fintiri’s urban renewal agenda aimed at upgrading public infrastructure to global standards.

“Most of these projects, including those at ADSIEC, the Civil Service Commission, the Abuja Liaison Office, and the Presidential Lodge, align with the governor’s commitment to infrastructure renewal. We want to modernise these edifices to fit the current digital era,” Pirambe stated.

He added that the Adamawa Digital Academy, located along Fufore Road in Yola South, established in partnership with the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) in 2023, had remained idle.

“With this new approval, the facility will be renovated and made fully operational to drive digital literacy and innovation across the state,” he said.

The newly approved projects, he emphasised, form part of the Fintiri administration’s broader efforts to modernise state infrastructure and promote technology-driven governance in Adamawa.
