A Magistrate’s Court sitting in Osogbo, Osun State, has sentenced a 27-year-old non-Nigerian, Justin Konnoudia, to six months imprisonment for stealing a Bajaj motorcycle valued at N780,000.
Konnoudia, who worked as a bricklayer in the Kelebe area of Osogbo, was accused of dispossessing his supervisor, Ademola Adeniyi, of the motorcycle after being permitted to use it to buy food on June 5, 2025. He never returned to the site and was later arrested in Kwara State after detectives tracked him.
Initially, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge of theft, but later changed his plea to guilty after an accelerated hearing was ordered.
Police Prosecutor, Inspector Adeoye Kayode, told the court that the offence contravened Section 383 and was punishable under Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Vol 11, Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2002.
Magistrate M. A. Olatunji ruled that the prosecution had proved its case beyond a reasonable doubt and convicted Konnoudia. The defendant pleaded for leniency, stating that hunger had driven him to commit the act. Delivering judgment, Olatunji sentenced him to six months imprisonment with an option of a N50,000 fine.
