The Strap and Safe Child Foundation marked this year’s Children’s Day with an event focused on the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), aimed at fostering awareness, creativity, and responsibility among schoolchildren.
The event, held at Dansol High School, Agidingbi, Ikeja, Lagos, brought together 23 schools under Lagos State Education District VI, with 12 schools actively participating in an SDG-themed project and inter-school competition.
Key stakeholders in attendance included Dr Oreoluwa Finnih-Awokoya, represented by Mrs Aisah ShDirector, Lagos State Educational District VI, Mrs Oluwayemi Yeside Omotayo (left); Convener/Managing Director, Strap and Safe Child Foundation, Mrs Bolanle Edwards; Directors Strap and Safe Child Foundation, Mrs. Funmilola Shelika and Mr Uzorchikwa Igbenabor, and representative, Lagos State Safety Commission, Mrs Ajoke Oshokoya with the winners at the event.olankep from the Lagos State Office for Sustainable Development Goals, as well as representatives from the Lagos State Safety Commission and the Ministry of Education. They commended the initiative for aligning with both global and local development goals.
Students showcased projects addressing themes such as good health and well-being (SDG 3), quality education (SDG 4), gender equality (SDG 5), clean water and sanitation (SDG 6), and climate action (SDG 13), demonstrating their passion for positive change and community impact.
In the SDG Project Competition, Oregun Junior High School claimed first place, followed by Omole Junior Grammar School in second and Community Junior High School in third.
In the senior category, Oke-Ira Senior Grammar School emerged as winners, with Omole Senior Grammar School and Babs Fafunwa Millennium Senior Grammar School taking second and third places, respectively.
Sholanke praised the initiative, stating, “The SDGs are not just international ideals, they are tools for transformation. I commend the Strap and Safe Child Foundation for engaging children in this powerful way.”
The Foundation’s founder, Mrs Bolanle Edwards, added, “Every child deserves the knowledge and tools to build a safer, healthier, and more sustainable world. This project reflects our vision of creating future leaders grounded in responsibility and purpose.”
