The Association of Ebonyi Indigenes Socio-Cultural in the Diaspora (AEISCID) has cautioned the Governor Francis Nwifuru-led administration against the construction of a new airport in the state amidst widespread poverty among the citizenry.
AEISCID’s President-General, Amb. Pascal Oluchukwu, in a statement on Sunday in Abuja, argued that the airport project was not a priority for a poverty-ridden state like Ebonyi.
AEISCID claimed that most of the policies and programs of the Nwifuru-led government seem largely uncoordinated and directionless, adding that the administration appears to be in a hurry to impress the wealthy through its profligate spending while neglecting the peculiar needs, interests, and welfare of the poor masses in the state.
AEISCID cautioned the Nwifuru-led administration against stifling the voices of opposition, no matter how reasonable or unreasonable they may perceive such views.
The group argued that those who point out shortcomings in the governance of the state mean well for the administration.
AEISCID advised media handlers to address issues raised against the government with factual and evidence-based details without resorting to name-calling or abusing individuals whose public and private accomplishments they may never attain.
AEISCID maintained that the opposition should not be regarded as hopeless, sore, and bitter losers whose ideas should never count or be considered.
It noted that respected Ebonyians, like the PDP candidate Odii, popularly known as Anyichuks, is an accomplished industrialist well-known in Nigeria and beyond for his entrepreneurial spirit and achievements.
AEISCID argued that describing such an accomplished and outstanding Ebonyian like Chief Ifeanyi Odii—a man whom Ebonyians massively voted for during his quest for the number one seat in the state—in the manner and tone used by the faceless urchins operating under an amorphous platform like ‘Unwuekumenyi’ is reprehensible and condemnable.
To this end, AEISCID demanded an apology from the so-called amorphous ‘Unwuekumenyi’ forum for their comments on the person and personality of Anyichuks. The group also called for caution against such inflammatory comments in the future.
