In a swift response to a distress call, operatives of the Eagle-Net Special Squad in Asaba, Delta State, have arrested an ex-convict, Precious Okoro, just five days after his release from prison, for allegedly stealing another motorcycle.
Spokesperson for the Delta State Police Command, Bright Edafe, disclosed the development, saying it is part of the command’s ongoing effort in tackling crime in the state.
Edafe emphasised that all Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and heads of formations have been directed to fully implement this strategy to ensure adequate policing across the state.
According to him, the arrest took place on Sunday, August 11, 2025, at approximately 3:30 p.m., when a patrol team from the Eagle-Net Special Squad, while conducting a visibility patrol, responded to a report of a stolen motorcycle.
In a joint effort with the Nigeria Hunters Security Services (NFSS), the team apprehended two suspects: 27-year-old Precious Okoro of ULO Street, Asaba, and 18-year-old Buhari Deyegu of Ibusa Road, Asaba. The missing motorcycle was recovered during the operation.
Further investigation revealed that Okoro had only recently been released on August 6, 2025, from the Ogwashi-Uku Correctional Facility, where he served a two-year sentence for a similar motorcycle theft.
A search warrant executed at Okoro’s residence led to the recovery of additional suspected stolen items, including one Tiger generator, one large Fireman generator, and an iron measuring scale.
Police say investigations are ongoing, and the suspects remain in custody.
The Delta State Command reiterated its commitment to proactive policing and warned criminals that the state remains unsafe for illegal activities under the current security strategy.
