Fire guts 26 shops in Lagos market

Swift intervention by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) on Tuesday prevented a fire outbreak at Bariga Market from escalating into a major disaster.

Several shops in the market were engulfed in flames, though the cause of the fire had yet to be determined.

Preliminary reports indicated that the blaze started in one of the shops and quickly spread to others because the stalls were partitioned with wooden structures.

Emergency responders worked together to contain and extinguish the fire before it could reach other sections of the market. Officials also managed the scene proactively to prevent any secondary incidents.

Despite their efforts, 26 key-clamp shops were affected, with goods worth millions of naira destroyed. No casualties or injuries were reported.
