Ikotun Plank Market was on Thursday razed by fire, with goods worth millions of naira destroyed.
Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, revealed in a statement that the inferno affected four shops in the pipeline area.
Oke-Osanyintolu said that the inferno was curtailed from spreading to adjoining buildings due to the prompt response of the Agency’s Dolphin Response Team from Igando and the efficient coordination of other responders at the scene.
The LASEMA permanent secretary said the cause of the fire could not be ascertained, even though no lives were lost and no injuries were sustained as a result of the incident.
Another fire outbreak was reported at the Federal Institute of Industrial Research (FIIRO) office in Oshodi earlier in the day as a result of overheating from the generator.
LASEMA revealed that there was no loss of life and no injuries were sustained after the fire was also brought under control.
