Imo police probe alleged assault, extortion in lady’s viral TikTok video

The Imo State Police Command said it has commenced an investigation into the viral TikTok video where one Miss Jennifer Kingsley alleged that she and her baby’s father were assaulted by yet-to-be-identified police officers on patrol in Amakohia, Owerri.

The lady in the viral video also alleged that the officers, during the incident, extorted the sum of N150,000 from her before letting them go.

The Imo Command, in a release signed by the spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye, disclosed that following the video, the victim was contacted, and she has formally reported the incident to the Command.

Okoye, who reiterated the Command’s unwavering dedication to upholding professionalism, accountability, and ensuring public safety, assured that those responsible for the lady’s ordeal if found, would face the appropriate sanction.

He also appealed to anyone with useful information that could assist in the investigation to contact the Command’s Public Relations Department, while urging the public to report any incidents of police misconduct, harassment, or extortion to the Complaint Response Unit (CRU), the IGP X-Squad Unit, or submit them via the dedicated hotline at 08148024755 to ensure a prompt and thorough investigation.

The release partly read, “The Imo State Police Command is aware of the viral TikTok video posted by Miss Jennifer Kingsley, in which she alleges that on February 20, 2025, while she was on her way to take her baby to school, she and the father of her child were assaulted by yet-to-be-identified police officers on patrol in Amakohia, Owerri, and that during the incident, a sum of 150,000 Naira was extorted from her.

“Consequently, an investigation is now underway to identify those responsible for possible arrest and appropriate actions. The public will be updated on the progress of our investigation as it unfolds.

“The Command is also aware of the public discussions surrounding this complaint, including comments from TikTok blogger @missnatural01. Under the leadership of CP Aboki Danjuma, the Imo State Police Command remains dedicated to upholding professionalism and accountability while ensuring public safety.

“The Imo State Police Command remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents. We continue to encourage the public to cooperate with the police in fostering a just, safe, and secure Imo State.”
