Kano govt bars Sheikh Lawan from preaching

The Kano State Shura Council, the government’s religious advisory body, has barred Islamic cleric Sheikh Lawan Triumph from preaching, following allegations of blasphemy against Prophet Muhammad raised by Islamic groups in the state.

The council’s secretary, Shehu Wada Sagagi, announced the decision at a press conference on Wednesday, according to a report by Daily Nigerian.

He explained that the ban was to enable the cleric to appear before the council to defend himself against the allegations.

Sagagi stressed that the restriction would remain in place until investigations are concluded, adding that the council was committed to ensuring fairness and justice in the process.

He also appealed to politicians not to interfere in the matter, urging them to allow the council to handle the case appropriately.
