The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service (LSFRS) chart has shown that it responded to a total of 1,072 emergency incidents in the first half of 2025.
This is contained in its Mid-Year Activity Report for January to June 2025, highlighting key emergency response statistics and operational successes.
These incidents comprised 922 fire calls, two minor explosion incidents, 10 building collapses, eight of them partial, 73 rescue operations, and 65 salvage incidents.
The report also noted staggering 315 false emergency calls, emphasising the persistent challenge posed by non-genuine emergencies. During this period, the service rescued 252 individuals from perilous situations, including fires and building collapses. Regrettably, 62 fatalities were recorded.
Property valued at approximately N64.32 billion was saved, while losses were estimated at N10.72 billion, The Guardian was told. The Director, LSFRS, Margaret Adeseye, noted that the figures demonstrate the agency’s effectiveness in contributing to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) while minimising damage, safeguarding lives, environments and assets throughout the state.
Adeseye added that the agency is proactively engaging stakeholders across the state to address the menace of fire outbreaks.
“These efforts will be further strengthened during the upcoming 2025 International Fire Safety Conference 2.0, where collaborative strategies for enhancing fire safety and emergency response will be further discussed.”
