The chairman elected in the October 15, 2022, election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Atakunmosa West Local Government Area of Osun State, Mr. Dare Ajumobi, has appealed to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to come to the rescue of residents of four communities in the council area affected by a recent rainstorm.
In a statement made available to journalists on Saturday, Ajumobi said many people in the communities affected by the rainstorm, which include Okebode, Ila-Ijesa, Ifewara, and Isolo, were displaced after the incident.
He lamented that many properties were affected by the rainstorm, thus making it impossible for individuals or the local government to adequately assist the victims.
Ajumobi, who subsequently called on the federal government and its relevant agencies to come to the aid of the people whose houses were destroyed, stated, “We appeal to NEMA to please come to our aid. The rainstorm was devastating. About five communities, namely Okebode, Ila-Ijesa, Ifewara, and Isolo, were seriously affected.
“There is little we can do on our own, but we believe the Federal Government, through its relevant agencies, can rise up and help our people bounce back and pick up their lives.”
Expressing optimism that the federal government and NEMA would assist the affected residents, he sympathised with those who lost properties, urging them not to lose hope.
“We sympathise with those affected. In fact, it is disheartening to see people in clusters looking for where to keep their essentials and their little ones. I was moved to tears when I got to some of the affected communities because of the extent of the damage. I hope NEMA will act swiftly and provide relief materials for those affected.
“I also urge the affected families and villages to remain calm as they expect succor from the government,” Ajumobi posited.
