Motorcyclist swept away by flood in Edo

A motorcyclist was swept away by floodwaters in Ekpoma, Esan West Local Council of Edo State, after a heavy downpour on Tuesday evening.

The incident, which renewed concerns about worsening flooding across the state, was captured in a viral video circulating on social media. In the footage, a narrator explained that the event occurred at Uwenlenbo Road, near Zekor Hotel, Ekpoma.

Eyewitnesses described the scene as horrifying, noting that the powerful current overwhelmed the rider, who had a female passenger at the time. The rider was swept away after struggling with the raging water, worsened by the absence of proper drainage channels in the area.

Another voice in the video was heard calling for help as sympathisers displayed the victim’s motorcycle number plate and urged anyone who recognised him to come forward.

They also appealed for urgent intervention from state and federal government agencies, lamenting that floods continue to endanger lives and destroy property in Edo.
