Nasarawa NURTW denies involvement in killing of four soldiers
The chairman of the Nasarawa State chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alhaji Muhammed Abubakar, has said that the driver who killed four soldiers at a military checkpoint is not a member of their union.
Mohammed spoke to journalists yesterday after receiving the report of the brutal killings of four soldiers of the 4 Special Forces Command, Doma.
He said the vehicle and the driver were not registered with the union, saying the union maintains a register of all its members and vehicles.
However, he assured security agencies of the union’s readiness to collaborate in identifying the perpetrator, who was also accused of involvement in cattle rustling.
“I can confirm that the driver of the vehicle with number plate 747 LAFIA is not our member, and his vehicle is not registered with us,” he said.
He called the incident rather unfortunate.
The four soldiers were struck by the bus, which was suspected of being involved in cattle rustling.
According to eyewitness reports, the soldiers were crushed to death while attempting to stop the driver who was transporting two cows suspected to have been stolen. The two cows died instantly, while the driver, whose identity is yet to be known, abandoned the vehicle and fled.
