NSCDC arrests 28-year-old suspected fraudster in Adamawa

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested a 28-year-old man suspected of defrauding several individuals in Adamawa State.

The arrest was made on September 2 in Timbokum village, Ganye Local Government Council, following a report lodged at the Corps’ Divisional Office in Mubi.

The NSCDC Command spokesperson, Nyako Baba, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Thursday in Yola, the state capital.

He said the suspect is currently in custody and will face prosecution upon the completion of ongoing investigations.

According to the State Commandant, Idris Bande, the suspect allegedly defrauded at least nine individuals of a total sum of N9.8 million.

The victims were reportedly lured with false promises of political appointments, job placements, and overseas travel opportunities.

“Records show that the suspect obtained contacts of prominent personalities in the state, which he used to convince victims with enticing but fake offers,” Bande said.

Preliminary investigations, according to the command, revealed that the suspect had refunded N1.1 million to some of his victims. Efforts are underway to recover the remaining funds and uncover the full extent of his activities.

The NSCDC also announced that investigations are being expanded to identify any possible accomplices.

Commandant Bande urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities promptly.

He reaffirmed the corps’ commitment to safeguarding lives, property, and public trust by ensuring that fraudsters and other criminal elements are held accountable.
