OPM founder faults Rivers orphanage home for rejecting abandoned girl

Chibuzor Chinyere

The General Overseer of Omega Power Ministries (OPM), Apostle Chibuzor Gift Chinyere, has expressed disappointment and frustration after an orphanage home in Rivers State, owned and funded by the state government, rejected a young girl abandoned at his gate.

The clergyman took to his social media handle to express his disappointment, saying the father of the 14-year-old girl dropped her at his gate and left without means of identification.

He explained that the girl was first taken to the Nigerian police special Area Rumuokoro, where she received care and feeding.

However, when she was taken to the orphanage home in Borokiri, the management refused to accept her, claiming that OPM had the capacity to cater for her.

Apostle Chinyere stated that this was not the first time the orphanage home had rejected children brought to them, on the reason that OPM had been doing so for the past 15 years, and capable of taking care of them.

He said: “I use tithes and offerings from OPM Church to care for over 500 children without government allocations.

“I have instructed my security not to return with the girl. It’s unacceptable that an orphanage home funded by the government would reject a child in need,” he lamented.

He questioned the rationale behind the Orphanage home’s decision, stating that OPM’s is doing a lot in humanitarian efforts.

Those include 37 free schools for orphans, 2 free specialist hospitals, 18 free estates, free school for children with autism and Down syndrome, OPM free multi-skill acquisition centres, among others.

The cleric expressed his outrage, stating that he had been rescuing abandoned children in Rivers State for over 15 years, and that it was unacceptable for the orphanage home to reject the girl.

Chinyere, however, appealed to Nigerians to share his message until it reaches the right authorities, calling for accountability and transparency in the management of government-funded institutions.

He also called on the government to investigate the matter and take necessary actions to ensure that children in need are not rejected by institutions funded by the government.
