Osun monarch probes land-grabbing allegations against chiefs

The Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, Owa Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, has established a seven-member committee to investigate various allegations of misconduct among his chiefs.

A statement issued by the paramount ruler’s media aide, Isaac Haastrup, disclosed that the committee will also investigate boundary disputes and land-grabbing allegations against Ijesaland chiefs.

Some residents of Ijesaland have reportedly complained about the alleged dispossession of their land by certain chiefs.

The traditional ruler tasked the committee, chaired by the Salotun of Ilesa, Chief Disu Oyedele, with investigating complaints levied against his chiefs by the people of Ijesaland, examining controversies surrounding certain chieftaincy titles, and boundary disputes with neighbouring towns and villages.

Other committee members include Likiti of Ikoti, Chief Fatoye Olaniyi, secretary; Loro of Ilesa; High Chief Olalekan Folorunso, Ogboni of Ilesa; High Chief Saka Fapounda, the Agbadae of Igbadae; Oba Olaoaebikan, the Loosare of Isare; Chief Lawrence Balogun; and Risa of Ijamo, Chief Oladayo Ogini.

Addressing the committee, the paramount ruler emphasised the importance of sincerity and the fear of God in guiding their efforts to correct anomalies and promote justice across all sectors.

He directed the general public to forward their complaints to the committee via the secretary, Likoti of Ikoti, Chief Olaniyi, for a fair hearing.

In another development, Oba Haastrup declared zero tolerance for cultism and other crimes, promising to support the police in their efforts to make Ijesaland uninhabitable for criminals.

He praised the Ilesa Area Commander of Police for maintaining peace in Ilesa and its environs on July 7, 2025, a day previously marred by fear due to cultist activities.

Speaking through the Ajirowa of Ijesaland, Chief Lateef Bakare, Owa Haastrup urged the Christian body to pray for Ijesaland as the Cherubim and Seraphim Churches begin preparations for their centenary anniversary celebration.

He assured his support for hosting the members of the Ijesa branch of the C&S unification.
