Following an attempt to cart away the Agemo statue at Itoro junction, Ijebu Ode, on Saturday, the Ogun State Police Command says the suspect, one Jeremiah Nwoke, is now in its custody and placed under mental evaluation.

Police spokesperson CSP Omolola Odutola, in a statement, stated that Jeremiah Nwoke, who desecrated the revered Agemo Shrine and severed its crown, is now in Police Custody with the recovered crown at Obalende Police Station.

She disclosed that the prompt response by the police at the scene calmed tension and prevented potential violent escalation by traditional worshippers.

“Ijebu Ode remains calm. Members of the public are assured of their safety as investigation into the incident continues,” Odutola said.
