Police arrest three suspected phone robbery syndicate

The Ogun State Police Command has apprehended three suspects involved in a robbery incident in Odeda, leading to the recovery of a stolen motorcycle while further investigations are ongoing to arrest their accomplices.

On March 9, 2025, at about 7:10p.m., a victim, Akanji Lekan ‘m’, 21, reported to the Odeda Police Division that he was attacked near Egba/Odeda High School, Odeda.

According to his statement, while walking through the area, six men on two Bajaj Boxer motorcycles intercepted him, and forcibly snatched his bag containing one iPhone 15 Pro Max valued at N2.2million, one Samsung X9 phone valued at N220,000.

As soon as the police received the complaints, they swiftly mobilised and pursued the suspects.

With the assistance of members of the public, three of the suspects were apprehended along Osiele Road while attempting to escape on a red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle (Reg. No. KSF 213 QN).

Confirming the incident in a statement yesterday, spokesperson for the command, CSP Omolola Odutola identified the suspects as Femi Adesina, 23, Lawal Olasunkanmi, 19, both from Lagos State and Shola Sunkanmi, 28, from Ibadan, Oyo State.

During interrogation, the suspects confessed to the crime and disclosed that they had already handed over the stolen phones to their accomplices, identified as Noah, Opeyemi, and Ibrahim (full details yet to be confirmed), who managed to escape.

According to Odutola, the recovered Bajaj Boxer motorcycle has been taken into police custody as evidence, while the arrested suspects remain detained for further investigation.

She said: “Efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing accomplices.

“The Divisional Crime Branch (DCB) is actively investigating the case, and further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.

“The Ogun State Police Command urges the public to remain vigilant and avoid carrying expensive valuables in isolated areas.

“Citizens are encouraged to promptly report suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies.
