The Zamfara State Police Command has confirmed the killing of five worshippers and the abduction of several others in an attack on a mosque in Yandoto community, Tsafe Local Government Area.
Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar, disclosed this in a telephone interview with journalists on Saturday.
According to him, the attack occurred during morning prayers when armed bandits stormed the mosque, killing five people, injuring several others, and abducting scores.
“The bandits reportedly surrounded the mosque, locked it, and began shooting at worshippers while they were performing prayers,” Abubakar said.
He added that the injured victims have been taken to Gusau General Hospital for treatment, while the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Tsafe is compiling a detailed report on the number of abducted persons for onward transmission to the command headquarters.
Abubakar assured that additional personnel have been deployed across the state to boost security, particularly around places of worship.
He appealed to residents to provide timely and credible information to security agencies to help prevent further attacks.
The incident comes barely two weeks after a similar attack in Turbe village, also in Tsafe Local Government Area, where several worshippers were killed and many others abducted.
