The Anambra State Police Command has announced the commencement of an investigation into several videos and voice notes circulating on social media containing threats of violence in the state.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement released in Awka on Thursday.
Ikenga said the police are not taking the clips lightly and are committed to maintaining law and order by ensuring that no individual or group infringes on the fundamental human rights of others.
“Recall that the Command in the past has arrested some persons involved in such acts of making videos and voice notes to cause tension and panic to distract the peace of Ndi Anambra,” Ikenga said.
He further disclosed that, in response to the current situation, the police, in collaboration with other security agencies, have intensified patrols and bolstered security measures across the state.
“Given the above, police and other security forces have intensified patrols and improved security dominance and surveillance to enforce the law, maintain public order, public safety, and other support services in the state,” the statement read in part.
The officer also advised residents to contact the police in case of any need for security services.
