Police rescue kidnap victims, arrest suspects in multi-state raids

Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) have rescued kidnapped victims, arrested suspects, and recovered arms in multiple operations across Delta, Katsina, Adamawa, and Edo states.

The details of these operations were highlighted in a statement signed by the Force Spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, released on Sunday.

In Edo State, police operatives, in collaboration with local vigilante groups, rescued two individuals, Godday Irieude and Wisdom Emeka, who were abducted from their farm in the Ewatto area on June 26, 2025, at about 1:00 AM.

“The kidnappers, upon sighting police operatives, engaged them in a fierce gun duel. However, the superior firepower of the operatives caused the kidnappers to flee with various degrees of gunshot injuries, leading to the rescue of the kidnapped victims unhurt,” Adejobi noted.

In Delta State, the police raided a residence in the Mosogar area, arresting two suspected cultists, Koko Josh (29) and Asomugha Clinton (27). The operation led to the recovery of one fabricated Baretta pistol loaded with two rounds of live ammunition, two locally made guns, eight live cartridges, multiple mobile phones, a laptop, and fetish items.

Follow-up investigations resulted in the arrest of two additional suspects, Anthony Kelvin (26) and Gift Amotsuka (25), all confirmed members of the Aiye Confraternity. In a separate Delta State operation in Okpanam, police arrested Ekene Chroma (36) and Okafor Jonathan (18), recovering two English-made single-barrel guns and 110 live cartridges, with preliminary investigations revealing their roles as suppliers and couriers for wanted criminals.

In Katsina State as well, operatives from the Force Intelligence Department – Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) apprehended Yunusa Ishaku (40) in Funtua, recovering two stolen vehicles, a Toyota Hiace bus and a Toyota Camry.

“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to his role in a nationwide vehicle theft ring targeting Abuja, Jos, and other cities, with stolen vehicles being conveyed to Niger Republic for resale,” said Adejobi.

The suspect also disclosed the locations of three additional stolen vehicles in Zamfara and Bauchi states.

In Adamawa State, FID-IRT operatives arrested Alhaji Iya Bima (52) from Kem Shithem LGA, recovering one AK-47 rifle, two magazines, and fifty rounds of live 7.62×39 mm ammunition. Further interrogation led to the recovery of an additional AK-47 rifle, three magazines, and 50 rounds of ammunition.

The Force Spokesperson added that the arrested suspects will be arraigned before the court of law upon completion of investigation.
