The Centre for Human and Socio-Economic Rights (CHSR) has called on the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to intervene in disturbing cases of violence, conspiracy, and abuse of power allegedly involving police officers.
The group warned that if the situation is not addressed urgently, it could escalate into bloodshed and further undermine public trust in law enforcement.
Speaking at a press briefing yesterday, CHSR President, Alex Omotehinse, highlighted allegations of threats, attempted murder, conspiracy, malicious damage, and intimidation against one Kolawale Oluakamo.
The case centres on four plots of land located at Ijagemo Road, Tailor Bus Stop, in Ojo Local Council Area of Lagos State, valued at over N40 million. Oluakamo, who claims the land belongs to his elder sister living abroad, said he has lawfully managed the property for over 10 years with valid survey documents and receipts.
He recounted how a serving police officer threatened his life on February 2, 2025, and how armed men stormed the site on April 16, 2025, causing damage and attempting to seize the property by force. On September 23, 2025, he was attacked, beaten, and warned to stay away from the land.
Omotehinse stressed that the matter goes beyond a land dispute, describing it as a direct attack on life, human rights, and the rule of law. He warned that if the threats, shootings, beatings, harassment, and intimidation are not addressed, Lagos could witness widespread violence and possible loss of lives.
CHSR urged the Inspector-General of Police, the AIG Zone 2, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, and the Police Service Commission to take immediate and decisive action on the matter.
