The Rotary Club of Omole Golden, District 9111, which comprises Lagos and Ogun states, has honoured the immediate past President of the club, Jide Ogunleye, for his outstanding performance in delivering over 40 humanitarian projects during his one-year tenure.
Ogunleye, who spoke at the leadership transition ceremony held at Excellence Hotel, Ogba, Lagos, where he handed over the presidency to Adekunmilola Toluwase Adio-Moses, attributed his success to God and the cooperation of club members.
He said: “I was nominated to lead the club, and because service is something I am passionate about, it was natural for me to give it my all. We set out to do 11 projects, but we ended doing over 40. We accomplished everything we planned and more.
“Our standout project was an ICT Centre for Ajuwon Secondary School. We renovated the laboratory and equipped it with 25 computers powered with solar energy for sustainability, costing N25 million.”
The club also completed an international project in Calgary, Canada, under Rotary’s global service framework.
During his tenure, Ogunleye inducted over 24 new members, raised significant funds in naira and foreign currencies, and led the club to contribute over $34,000 to the Rotary Foundation. He also intensified polio advocacy in Lagos and Abeokuta.
“It was a magical and unforgettable year. We pushed ourselves to meet the genuine needs of people. There was no project we wished we had done; we did them all,” he said.
The incoming President, Moses, while praising his predecessor for his excellent performance, promised to sustain the momentum, saying: “This year, we are committed to expanding our impact further and deeper.”
The immediate past Vice President of the club, Dr Rachael Adeyemi, described Ogunleye as someone who has made a significant impact and raised the standards not only within the club but also across the district.
“Today is special for us. We are honouring a leader that raised the bar not just for our club but throughout the district. He made an impact locally and internationally. He brought people back to Rotary,” she said.
Also, Past Assistant Governor, District 9111, Kayode Samuel Owolabi, said the past president is a phenomenal leader who had demonstrated exceptional leadership, bringing every member together.
He commended him for his remarkable achievements.
