Six dead as tricycle rams into truck in Uyo

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Akwa Ibom State has confirmed the deaths of six individuals, three men, one woman, and two children, in a fatal collision.

The accident occurred along Mbiabong Road, off Itu-Calabar Road, on Thursday morning.

The crash involved a tricycle (Keke) bearing registration number DUU407WZ and a DYNA truck without a visible registration plate. The driver of the truck reportedly fled the scene before FRSC operatives arrived.

FRSC Sector Commander, Assistant Corps Marshal Edward Odiete, in a statement, said the tragic accident occurred around 8:00 a.m and could have been prevented had drivers adhered to basic safety precautions.

Eyewitness accounts suggest that the collision was caused by excessive speeding combined with brake failure.

Following the crash, FRSC personnel swiftly responded, transporting the deceased to a morgue and clearing the road to restore traffic flow.

The FRSC described the incident as unfortunate and extended condolences to the bereaved families.

The corps also warned motorists against reckless behaviors such as speeding, wrong-way driving, and distracted driving, emphasizing the need for strict adherence to traffic rules to prevent future tragedies.
