Sule suspends excos of Nasarawa teachers commission over illegal recruitment
Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule has suspended the chairman and members of the State Teachers Service Commission (TSC) following the unauthorised recruitment of over 1,000 additional teachers in the state.
The suspension comes after the governor earlier this year approved the recruitment of 1,000 teachers and recently directed the payment of their entitlements.
However, the directive led to several public complaints about non-payment of salaries, leading to an investigation.
Sule convened a meeting on Monday at the Government House in Lafia with members of the TSC, the Commissioner for Education, and other officials of the State Ministry of Education to address the issue, according to a Channels TV report.
During the meeting, TSC members admitted to recruiting over 2,000 teachers. which, without prior approval, is more than twice the approved number.
Sule, dissatisfied with the breach, announced the immediate suspension of the TSC Chairman and members.
He also directed the formation of a committee to investigate the illegal recruitment and provide a comprehensive report for further action.
