Troops of 3 Division and Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) have arrested a suspected militia along Kafi Abu-Rakwok Road in Gashish District in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area (LGA) of Plateau State.
The incident happened on Monday, according to a statement by the Media Information Officer of the OPSH in Jos, Major Samson Zhakom, who disclosed the arrest to journalists. He also said the troops have recovered an AK-47 rifle and ammunition from the suspect.
According to the spokesman, the suspect was arrested during a night operation by the troops, adding that he was in an ambush position with possible intent of attacking unsuspecting commuters in the area.
Explaining further, Zhakom said, “Items recovered from the suspect include one fabricated AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine, and 30 rounds of 7.62 mm (Special) ammunition.”
Zhakom added that while efforts are ongoing to conduct follow-up operations to intercept other members of the criminal syndicate, the suspect and recovered weapons are in the custody of the OPSH.
He, therefore, urged the public to continually furnish troops with actionable information about criminal activities within their areas.
OPSH is a multi-security task force maintaining peace and harmony in the state and recently arrested many bandits, gunrunners, kidnappers, and other criminal suspects in the state.
