UNILAG probes lecturer accused of sexually assaulting student

A lecturer at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Dr. Samuel Ojogbo, has been accused of sexually assaulting a 20-year-old female student of the institution.

Sources said the 300-level student (name withheld) reported the matter to the police on August 28, 2025, alleging that on August 22, 2025, at about 12:00 p.m., the lecturer invited her into his office and forcefully had carnal knowledge of her. She was later taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

The university management confirmed awareness of the allegation of sexual impropriety. It said the case had been reported to the appropriate police authorities, while the University’s Safeguarding Centre was providing support to the student.

The Head of the Communication Unit at UNILAG, Adejoke Alaga-Ibraheem, disclosed that the institution had also set up a panel to investigate the allegation. She assured that findings would be communicated through appropriate channels upon completion.

“The public is hereby assured that the University will conduct a thorough investigation, and ensure justice for all involved,” she said.

“Students and other members of the university community are encouraged to report any form of harassment or misconduct through designated offices,” Alaga-Ibraheem added.
