NIS partners Dutch govt to enhance migration management

Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has strengthened bilateral ties with the Government of the Netherlands through a strategic partnership aimed at enhancing Nigeria’s migration governance and border security systems.

The high-level meeting, held at the NIS Headquarters in Abuja, followed an earlier working visit to the Netherlands by the Comptroller General of Immigration (CGIS), Kemi Nandap.

It featured the formal handover of critical operational tools, including the Edison Software licence keys and the Passport Examination Programme Manual (PEPM III) App.

Confirming the development, the Service Public Relations Officer, ACI A.S. Akinlabi, emphasised that the engagement underscored NIS’s commitment to innovation in service delivery and international cooperation.

The Dutch delegation was led by the Chargé d’affaires of the Embassy of the Netherlands, Mr J. Bartelink, who reaffirmed his country’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s ongoing reforms in migration governance and border security.

He praised the enduring partnership between both nations and the importance of continuous collaboration in tackling global migration challenges.

Also in attendance was the Director of International Affairs, Repatriation and Deportation Services at the Dutch Ministry of Justice and Security, Mr Rob Bokhoven.

He disclosed plans to share an additional mobile border software program with the NIS an initiative aimed at improving Nigeria’s border control through innovative, tech-enabled solutions.

In her remarks, the CGIS expressed appreciation to The Netherlands for its sustained technical support.

She noted that the PEPM III and Edison Software tools would significantly improve document verification and border management capacity, supporting the effective implementation of Nigeria’s National Migration Policy.

Receiving the equipment, which consists of the Edison Software Licence Keys and the Passports Examination Programme Manual, (PEPM) III, Nandap said the delivery of the gadgets would boost Nigeria’s border security, significantly improve the Service’s document verification border management capabilities and support the implementation of Nigeria’s National Migration Policy.

She said: “The engagement will further reinforce the strategic partnership between Nigeria and the Netherlands advancing shared goals in migration governance, border security and international cooperation.”
