The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced the recovery of a locomotive and a passenger coach from the site of Tuesday’s train accident in Kaduna.

NRC Managing Director, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, who visited the accident site on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, personally supervised the ongoing recovery operations alongside the corporation’s team of engineers.

In a statement, Opeifa disclosed that the recovery team successfully retrieved one of the derailed passenger coaches in addition to the locomotive initially recovered on the day of the incident.

He commended the engineers for their professionalism, resilience, and swift response in handling the situation. He also expressed appreciation to security agencies deployed to the site for ensuring the operation was carried out smoothly and safely.

The NRC boss further acknowledged the media for its continuous support, describing it as a vital partner in disseminating credible and factual information to help Nigerians understand the true situation and progress being made.

Opeifa reassured passengers and the public that all necessary measures were being taken to restore train services as quickly as possible.
“Passenger safety and service reliability remain the corporation’s top priorities,” he said.
