The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Lagos State Command, has arrested two guards in a major clampdown on the activities of quacks in the private security industry.
The Guardian gathered that the arrest followed the command’s preliminary undercover surveillance and intelligence gathering report. The two suspects, namely: Jonathan Haruna, ‘m’, 32, from Kaduna State and Emmanuel Lokwa, ‘m’, 45, from Benue State, work for an unlicensed private guard security company in the Ajah area of Lagos State.
A spokesperson for the command, SC Oluwaseun Abolurin, who confirmed the development in a statement, said the suspects were arrested on Monday, December 23, 2024, in the company’s premises where they work in Ajah.
According to him, the suspects revealed during interrogation that they wouldn’t have taken the jobs if they knew that the company was not licensed and didn’t comply with the government’s laid down rules and procedures for establishing a private security company.
Abolurin said the command also discovered that the private security companies involved in the quackery do so in a bid to use unsuspecting Nigerians, who are in serious need of jobs for survival, to secure better contracts with their clientele and pay peanuts to them as guards.
Meanwhile, the Commandant of NSCDC Lagos State Command, Mr Adedotun Keshinro, ordered a thorough investigation into the matter. He advised organisations to be wary of contracting their private security jobs to unverified and unlicensed companies, who may further destroy their hard-earned reputations.
Keshinro also warned all other unrepentant players who are involved in such unprofessional acts of quackery to desist or face the full wrath of the law when apprehended.
