DSS, NASENI begin local production of high-tech security equipment
The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) has entered into a strategic collaboration with the Defence Headquarters Department of Standards and Evaluation (DHQSE) to provide expertise oversight for critical defence infrastructure projects.
The move aligns with the NSE’s approved strategic agenda, focusing on quality assurance and effective evaluation of engineering projects. The NSE President, Margaret Aina Oguntala, who spoke on the collaboration, pledged commitment towards ensuring that the synergy strengthens the country’s defence infrastructure and contributes significantly to the engineering sector’s role in security and development.
Oguntala emphasised that NSE would provide project management advisory, safety evaluations, participation in expert site inspections, and support for quality assurance processes.
On his part, Maj.-Gen. Adekunle Ariyibi, who is the Chief of Defence Standards and Evaluations at the Defence Headquarters, said: “This collaboration with the NSE is a significant step in ensuring the quality and sustainability of our defence infrastructure. By combining the expertise of both institutions, we aim to uphold the highest standards of engineering excellence in the ongoing defence projects.”
MEANWHILE, the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure, yesterday, said it had commenced the production of high-tech security equipment in partnership with the Department of State Services (DSS).
The agency described the development as a major step towards achieving technological self-reliance in Nigeria’s security sector. NASENI’s Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Khalil Halilu, who spoke at a media briefing in Abuja, said that the advanced security equipment, jointly developed with the DSS and with full support from the President, would enhance intelligence gathering and improve national security coverage.
He added that the DSS Director-General, Oluwatosin Ajayi, had consistently emphasised the President’s vision of promoting self-reliance among security agencies and reducing Nigeria’s dependence on imported security equipment.
