The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has inaugurated new executives in five states.

The newly sworn-in executives will lead the council’s affairs in Rivers, Akwa-Ibom, Osun, Kano, and Kaduna states for the next four years.

During the inauguration ceremony, the NYCN President Sukubo Sara-Igbe charged the new executives to lead with transparency and accountability, emphasizing the need for responsible leadership.

The new executives emerged from elective congresses held in each state, except Akwa-Ibom, where a caretaker committee was constituted pending the conduct of an elective congress.

The new leaders include Ambrose Sopuruchi Okpor in Rivers, Akinbode Olakolupo Oluwasegun in Osun, Muhammed Abdullahi Sule in Kano, Umar Abubakar in Kaduna, and Uduak Rueben as caretaker committee chairperson in Akwa-Ibom.

Sara-Igbe, while announcing that the council now has 17 duly elected leadership structures in 17 states, marking a major milestone in promoting youth development and empowerment, noted that the council plans to conduct elective congresses in 17 other states before June, further expanding its reach.

Sara-Igbe, however, charged the newly elected executives to provide innovative, impactful, and exemplary leadership, emphasising transparency, accountability, and inclusivity, as well as urging them to promote peace, cohesion, and youth development in their states.

The NYCN President encouraged the executives to form strong collaborations with government agencies, corporate organizations, and individuals to attract employment opportunities and economic empowerment for young people, saying this, would enable the council to make a meaningful impact in the lives of young Nigerians.

He warned the executives against partisan politics and acts that could undermine the council’s constitution and tarnish its image, just as he tasked them to maintain the integrity and credibility of the organization, emphasizing that the council’s reputation depends on the quality of leadership provided by its executives.

The newly elected executives pledged to initiate life-changing programmes and tackle peculiar challenges facing youths in their states.
