NYSC swears in 2,096 corps members in Kaduna
The National Youths Service Corps (NYSC), on Friday swore in 2,096 corps members in Kaduna to officially kick-start the 21-day orientation course.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the corps members comprised 1,372 deployed to Kaduna and 724 from FCT Abuja,. camping in Kaduna for the orientation course.
The NYSC orientation course is aimed at providing transformative experience for the corps members, equipping them with thw necessary skills, knowledge, and values to excel in their service year and beyond.
The three-week course is designed to foster leadership, discipline, and self-discovery, while promoting national unity, cultural exchange, and community service.
Speaking at the occasion, Gov. Uba Sani said the scheme was not only a programme but a transformative initiative ran for over five decades.
Sani, who was represented by the Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Abubakar Buba, also said the scheme has united young Nigerians by breaking barriers of ethnicity, religion and language as well as nurturing leaders .
“Today, you have joined this remarkable scheme, standing on the shoulders of those who came before you, as symbols of hope, unity, and the boundless possibilities of our great nation,” he said.
The Governor also said that the corps members would experience the beauty of the state’s rich culture, the resilience of its people, and the potential for greatness that reside within every community.
“The state has a history of producing transformative leaders, while being confident that your time in Kaduna would not only be impactful but also life-changing one.
“As you embark on this three-week orientation course, this is more than just a routine exercise but a gateway to leadership, discipline, and self-discovery,” Sani said.
He assured the corps members that the state government was committed to their safety and well-being, adding that they have taken measures to ensure they serve and thrive in a secured and supportive environment.
Sani urged them to ensure boldness, innovation and selflessness during their service.
Earlier, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mr Hassan Taura, said the orientation course was a
pivotal programme designed to foster unity, integration, and cultural appreciation among participants.
He added that the comprehensive training provided in camp was designed to broaden the corps members’ perspectives, empower them to navigate the wider world with confidence and unlock their potentials.
“At the end of the orientation course, the corps members will be well
prepared to take on leadership roles and make meaningful impacts in the development of the nation.,“ he said.
Taura advised them to be committed in attending lectures and skills acquisition and entrepreneurship development training.
He thanked the state government for its unwavering support to the NYSC scheme and the corps members.
