Obiano’s wife wants sustainability in family values

Wife of Anambra State Governor, Mrs. Ebelechukwu Obiano, has urged women to sustain family values through prayers and noble actions. She also called on women to bridge communication gap existing between them and their husbands to fulfill their motherly roles.

Mrs. Obiano made the plea at the weekend while addressing the 2015 Women Convention at the Holy Ghost Adoration Ministry Uke, Idemili North Local council. She told participants that sustaining family values also rests on the ability to hold the household together with love and prayers, instilling the fear of God in children and helping people in need to attract blessings from God.

“Today I may be the wife of the governor, but it is important to let you know that we started small. Sometimes, the (extended) family income may put undue pressure on the husband and wife and that is when a woman must persevere in prayers,” she said.

“Many years ago, I asked God with hope and prayers to give me my husband and not a husband. My husband’s income was not enough, but I started selling thyme and curry to augment what my husband was making. Eventually, I got a job with the NNPC, which I did for 19 years, and my husband also got a job in a bank.

We were then able to buy a ‘second-hand’ car and, following my husband’s promotion as manager, he got a car. I also ensured that my job gave me time to play my role as the mother. I can tell you that, as long as you do what pleases God, you will be blessed.”

Mrs. Obiano recalled that she had visited the Adoration Ground on two previous occasions with her husband and expressed worry over the consistent loss of family values and its negative impact on society.

“I have no doubt that we are all witnesses to this gradual, but steady loss of values. The erosion of values is evident in the manner in which our people assimilate tendencies and behaviors that were once considered unacceptable in our communities. I admit that I have no superior insight into the cause of this malaise, but experience has shown that quite a number of factors are behind it.
