The Ogoni people of Rivers State have reiterated their call for an end to the lingering environmental, social and political injustices against them. The people, under the aegis of Ogoni Beyond Oil and Politics (BOP), urged the Federal Government to constitute a committee to perform proper burial rites for Ogoni leaders who lost their lives in the struggle for justice and equality.

This move, according to some of their leaders, is seen as a crucial step towards acknowledging the sacrifices made by these individuals. They sought to draw the attention of President Bola Tinubu to the ongoing struggles they faced, including environmental degradation, social marginalisation and political exclusion.

The Ogoni people expressed hope that their collective voice will prompt meaningful action from the government and other stakeholders towards addressing these long-standing issues, paving the way for a brighter future for Ogoni.

The Convener of BOP, His Royal Highness, Mene Kadilo Kabari, during an event to mark the 30th anniversary of the execution of four Ogoni Chiefs, Albert Badey, Edward Kobani, Theophilus Orage and Samuel Orage in Port Harcourt, said that BOP is a project aimed at uniting the leaders of Ogoni in the interest of development of the oil-rich area.

Kabari, in an address titled, ‘Three Decades after Toeing the Path of Self-Destruction, Ogonis must Think Beyond Oil and Politics to Reunite and Rebuild Ogoniland,’ regretted the disunity among the ruling class in the area.
