Okebukola urges varsity management to be prudent

THE Pro-Chancellor of Crawford University, Prof. Peter Okebukola has admonished university management to be extra prudent in the management of scarce financial resources available to them for the running of their institutions
Speaking against the backdrop of the falling oil price, he insisted that managements of universities must plug all areas of financial leakages to ensure that the scarce financial resources approved for them are put to good use.

Okebukola who gave the advice at the 7th Convocation and 10th anniversary of the university was of the view that unless universities, especially government owned, cut cost on avoidable expenditures that do not have direct effect on academic development, it could be difficult for such universities to survive “in the face of dwindling financial resources”.

Okebukola spoke even as the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Rotimi Ajayi urged governments at all levels to boost budgetary allocation to the education sector to help in the provision of quality and affordable education to all.

According to Ajayi “The 21st century in which we live emphasizes the place of the University as a paramount player in the global system increasingly driven by knowledge, information, technology and ideas”.

He added, “Knowledge has become highly vital to the social and economic transformation of any nation and a strong correlation has been established between knowledge, economy and the development of any nation.”
“Government should provide leadership in funding drive, by massively boosting budgetary allocation to education in general and university in particular”.
