FORMER Inspector-General (IG) of Police and Chairman, Police Service Commission (PSC), Mr. Mike Okiro, has lamented the inadequate funding and neglect of the Nigerian Police Force by past governments.

The former police boss noted that robust funding was needed to effectively fight sundry crimes in the country. He expressed optimism that the present government would reverse the trend and fund the institution.

Okiro, who stated this at the weekend in Lagos during the inaugural edition of the New Telegraph Achievers Award held in his honour, said what comes to the Nigerian police from the nation’s budget is too infinitesimal to fund an efficient police force in a volatile country like Nigeria.
