The Edo State Executive Council has approved a revised supplementary budget of N799.820 billion for the 2025 fiscal year, up from the initial N675.220 billion. The adjustment represents an increase of about N125 billion, or 18 percent.
The approval was given at an emergency executive meeting presided over by Governor Monday Okpebholo on Monday, September 29, 2025.
Briefing journalists after the meeting, Commissioner for Finance, Emmanuel Okoebor, said the revised budget prioritises infrastructure, with 70 percent allocated to capital expenditure and 30 percent to recurrent expenditure.
“Previously, we had a budget of N675 billion with recurrent expenditure at 33 percent and capital at 67 percent. The new revised budget raises capital expenditure by 25 percent and recurrent by just 5 percent, reflecting the governor’s commitment to infrastructure development,” Okoebor explained.
He noted that the recurrent increase was mainly due to the new minimum wage and fresh employment in the state’s hospital management board, which engaged over 1,000 workers.
According to Okoebor, capital expenditure rose from N450 billion to N563 billion, while recurrent expenditure increased by N12 billion. He added that the administration had already completed about 254km of roads across the state, with more projects ongoing.
Commissioner for Information and Communication, Paul Ohombamu, said the revised budget would be forwarded to the Edo State House of Assembly for legislative approval.
