Okpebholo replaces suspended aide Felix Isere with Kay Otono

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has appointed Barr. Kashimu “Kay” Otono as the new Special Adviser on Oil and Gas, replacing Felix Isere, who was recently suspended over alleged unauthorized fundraising activities.

Isere’s suspension follows accusations by the Edo State Government that he raised funds without approval for a proposed Oil and Gas Summit. In response, the government suspended the programme and directed Isere to refund all monies collected from donors.

The announcement was contained in a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Umar Musa Ikhilor, Esq., dated July 31, 2025.

“It is hereby announced for the information of the general public that the Governor of Edo State, His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has approved the appointment of Barr. Kashimu Otono as Special Adviser (Oil and Gas) to the Governor,” the letter read.

The development has sparked mixed reactions across the state. While some stakeholders commended the governor for taking swift disciplinary action to uphold transparency in public service, others have called for due process, urging Governor Okpebholo to reconsider the suspension.

Critics of the move argue that Isere has not been given a fair hearing and should be afforded the opportunity to defend himself before any permanent decision is made regarding his position.

Supporters of the new appointee, however, have expressed confidence in Otono’s ability to bring professionalism and renewed integrity to the Oil and Gas portfolio in the state.

Okpebholo’s administration has emphasized its zero-tolerance stance on misconduct in public office, reinforcing expectations of accountability from all appointees.
