One dead as rival groups continue to clash in Jos

The carnage exhibited on Sunday by deadly rival groups known as Sara-Suka when five of their members were killed is not yet over as one of them again was reportedly killed in a renewed clash on Tuesday.

The fresh incident happened around the Yantipa community of Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State. Yantipa is a place on the outskirts of Jos North where articulated trucks are parked by the Hausa/Fulani.

The clash which resulted in the death of one person also saw three people injured in the process which occurred on Tuesday night causing heart-breaking tension in the community.

According to residents of the area, who witnessed the event from afar, members of the rival groups were seen carrying machetes and other dangerous local weapons and attacking one another, the development which forced people to run for their dear lives.

A vigilante in Jos, Lawan Chizo, confirmed the incident to journalists that security agencies including soldiers were deployed there to restore law, order, and normalcy in the vicinity.

“The incident occurred between members of Sara-Suka groups of Angwan Rogo and Yantipa who have been at loggerheads for some time with residents expressing their frustration over the reoccurring of such dangerous rivalry between the groups,” Chizo said.

“Though there is still fear in the minds of residents, normalcy has been restored as of now.”

However, the State Commissioner of Police Emmanuel Adesina, has called for an emergency meeting with communities to in the bud the activities of Sara-Suka in the area.

According to the police source, the meeting was going to be a closed-door one which would take place at the Police Headquarters in Jos at their convenient time.
