The Osun State chapter of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) has declared a three-day warning strike to press for the payment of outstanding entitlements owed to its members.
In a statement released in Osogbo on Wednesday, the union’s chairman, Mr. Idirs Adeniran, said the decision followed the prolonged non-payment of imprest, statutory allowances dating back to 2015, and entitlements for 2024 and 2025, alongside unresolved promotion issues.
The union called on the Judiciary Service Commission (JSC) to step in, stressing that the intervention was necessary to restore industrial harmony, enhance productivity, and safeguard the integrity of the judiciary in the state.
“Resuming the suspended strike may prompt meaningful dialogue since the state government has not implemented the memorandum of agreement (MOA) signed,” Adeniran stated. He further urged stakeholders to support the union’s demands for swift action, warning that the effective functioning of the judiciary could not be sustained without motivated staff and adequate resources.
According to him, JUSUN is seeking the prompt resolution of pending promotions, restoration of allowance payments, staff training sponsorship, and the provision of official and utility vehicles to strengthen service delivery within the judiciary.
The union recalled that it had suspended a previous strike and directed its members to resume work on June 4 after extensive deliberations with the representatives of the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, and other stakeholders.
Despite the suspension, JUSUN noted that key issues remain unresolved. The union listed its outstanding demands as the implementation of the N70,000 new minimum wage and arrears, a 25 to 35 per cent salary increase, and payment of a five-month wage award with arrears.
Adeniran stressed that only the active involvement of the JSC could provide the necessary platform for negotiations and solutions.
