Oyo has rid civil service of corruption, says OYACA chair

The Oyo State Anti-Corruption Agency (OYACA) has declared that the state’s civil service has been largely cleansed of corrupt practices through the agency’s proactive operations and enforcement drive.

Speaking during a radio programme on Fresh FM, the Chairman of OYACA, Hon. Justice Eni Esan (Rtd), said the agency has fulfilled its core mandate of sanitising the public service and entrenching a culture of integrity across the state.

Justice Esan noted that Governor Seyi Makinde’s vision in establishing the agency was to ensure that civil and public servants discharge their duties responsibly and transparently, free from the grip of institutional corruption.

“Governor Makinde’s main goal when OYACA was constituted was to sanitise the public and civil service at all levels, ensuring that officials carry out their responsibilities with integrity. Through our work, we have sent a clear message of zero tolerance for corruption in Oyo State,” she said.

According to her, the agency has handled over 600 petitions from the public, prosecuted several senior civil servants, and secured convictions in many of the cases. OYACA, she added, now operates five branches across the state to make it easier for citizens to submit petitions and report wrongdoing.

Justice Esan stressed that the agency’s powers extend to investigating any individual in the state, regardless of status or position, once a credible petition is submitted.

“We have no pressure at all on any case, none whatsoever. We are completely independent in our investigations. The Governor made it clear from the day of our inauguration that if a petition is written against anyone, no matter how highly placed, we must investigate without fear or favour”, she said.

Accompanying the OYACA chair to the radio engagement were Dr. Prince Oyebade Oyedepo (FCA), board member; Ibrahim Tijani (Esq.), Executive Secretary; Folasade Ajibade, Director, ICT; Tajudeen Azeez, Director, Finance and Administration; Wasiu Alimi, Director, Administration and Supplies; and Eto-Abasi Olayanju, Chief Legal Officer.

Justice Esan reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to building a transparent, accountable, and corruption-free Oyo State, urging members of the public to continue submitting credible reports that can help sustain the gains already achieved.
