The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State said it plans to drag Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over the whereabouts of funds totalling about N17billion.

The party alleged that the amount is either kept aside as a parting gift for the governor or already spent to prosecute the just-held 2023 elections for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

These insinuations were dispelled by the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the governor, Rafiu Ajakaye who described the PDP as an “unrepentant and serial loser.”

The PDP’s Publicity Secretary, Olusegun Olusola on Ilorin queried that PDP and the entire populace deserve to know which bank the money was kept and how much interest it has attracted.

“Our position as opposition and like several millions Kwarans is simple, we urge the governor to address the entire state on how our money is fairing otherwise we shall tread another option by involving other government agencies that would bend him into action,” Olusola said.

He listed the preferred agencies including the EFCC and the state Assembly.

According to him: “Should he fail to account for this, we will take drastic steps to force him out of his shell.

“One of the actions will be to write the Nigeria Financial Intelligent Unit (NFIU) a subsidiary of the EFCC.

“After this, we are already putting up moves to storm the state Assembly to impress it on the lawmakers to wake up to their legislative duties and rescue Kwara people from eternal financial debt.

“We are planning to go to the state Assembly and encourage the legislators to summon courage to be up and doing in their legislative rites; they are not appendages of the governor.

“We trust the Speaker, Hon. Yakub Danladi, he has the capacity to be just and fair as well as defend the good people of the state. This is not about PDP as opposition but about the people,” he stated.

He however wondered how N17 billion could be stashed away in a personal account while insecurities pervade the entire state, saying: “criminalities have taken over the entire state, number of out-of-school children has increased and poor infrastructure is overwhelming yet N17billion is cooling off somewhere, this is counterproductive”.

Shola noted that several other strategies are ongoing “to ensure that the governor treats Kwara people like normal human beings they are.”
