A 3-month-old baby from Alabama has lost its life after being bitten by a family pet described as a ‘wolf-hybrid.’ The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office reported that the incident occurred around 12:54 p.m. on Thursday in Chelsea, prompting a swift response from sheriff’s deputies, firefighters, and county animal control officers following a 911 call about an animal attack.

Despite immediate efforts, the infant succumbed to injuries suspected to have been caused by the wolf-hybrid and was pronounced dead after being taken to the hospital. The term ‘wolf-hybrid’ refers to a canine with mixed wolf and dog ancestry, and the family was aware of the wolf lineage in the dog, confirmed Shelby County Coroner Lina Evans.

In response to law enforcement’s request, the animal was euthanized on-site and sent to the Alabama State Diagnostics Laboratory for further examination. The incident remains under investigation, with an autopsy scheduled, according to Evans.

Chelsea Mayor Tony Picklesimer expressed deep sadness over the tragedy and extended condolences to the affected family. He also cautioned exotic pet owners, emphasizing the additional responsibilities that come with owning such animals.

The community of Chelsea, located about 20 miles southeast of Birmingham, mourns this unfortunate event that has left them grappling with the unthinkable loss of a young life.
