Confirming the incident in a statement yesterday, the command’s spokesperson, CSP Omolola Odutola, said that the victim, Ayobami Ajayi, a 21-year-old male and third-year Mass Communication student at the university, is recovering in hospital after successful life-saving surgery.
Odutola explained: “A case of attempted murder occurred on January 21, 2025 at approximately 11:50 p.m. following a misunderstanding between two OOU students. Ayobami Ajayi, a 21-year-old male and third-year Mass Communication student, was stabbed in the lower abdomen during a minor argument concerning noise disturbances in his room.
“Ayodeji, a 25-year-old male and fifth-year Business Education student at the same university, cautioned the victim to reduce the noise level, but his warning was ignored. In a fit of anger, Ayodeji stabbed Ajayi, inflicting severe injuries to his stomach.”
It was later discovered that Ayodeji was suspected to be under the influence of hard drugs. He was subsequently arrested, and the divisional police officer immediately contacted a medical examiner to conduct a toxicology screening.The victim was transported to Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital in Sagamu for medical treatment and is reported to be in a stable condition.
The Divisional Crime Branch is currently investigating the incident. The scene of the crime has been visited, and a blood-stained knife, recovered as evidence, has been marked for examination.
