Murder_titleTHE Imo State Police Command has confirmed the killing of a 100 Level Accountancy student of Alvan Ikoku University of Education, Owerri, Donald Unanka, by unknown persons.

Citing a report to the command by the institution’s Chief Security Officer, the Police Public Relations Officer, Andrew Enwerem, said the late Unanka was shot last Tuesday by unknown persons at the premises of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Owerri, which shares fence with the institution.

According to Enwerem, there was nobody to confirm if anybody witnessed how the deceased was killed just as the police were yet to confirm if there were other three students murdered, as previously reported by local newspapers.

Meanwhile, scores of ex-militants in the state on the platform of the Niger Delta Youth Forum, numbering about 200, have accused politicians in the state of fanning the embers of disunity among them.

Speaking in Owerri, leader of the group and Orashi camp, Emeka Igwe, said that henceforth, the body would resist any attempt by any politician to use and dump them, thereby denying them their rights at both the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and the Imo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (ISOPADEC).

Among those at the meeting were the President, Imo Youth Council, Jeff Nwaoha, NDYM Chairman, Chigozie Ohiri, ISOPADEC Chairman, Oguta, Fatai Nwanwa, ISOPADEC Youth, Ohaji/Egbema, Nwulu John, and President, Izombe Central Youth, Dennis Nwachukwu.

The youths also urged the Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, to appoint the ISOPADEC Director of Accounts, Donald Igbo, as the representative of Ohaji/Egbema and Oguta in the NDDC, adding that they were sure he would make a better representation.

On his part, Igbo commended the group for its approach, urging members to remain peaceful and promising to ensure peace among the youths of Niger Delta region and to get to the grassroots whatever is due to the people.”
