The Oyo State Police Command has arrested two members of a suspected one-chance robbery syndicate linked to a series of criminal incidents across Ibadan.
According to a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Adewale Osifeso, the arrests followed the circulation of a viral video which exposed the gang’s activities in the Ibadan metropolis. In response, the Commissioner of Police directed tactical operatives to track down the suspects
“Following the emergence of a viral video exposing the gang’s activities, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Police Command, tasked operatives of the Command’s Tactical Units to apprehend the culprits,” Osifeso said.
He added that officers activated informant networks and began an intensive search, which led to the breakthrough on July 12.
“At about 3:30 p.m. on the Old Ibadan/Oyo Road, officers from the Command Monitoring Unit located and arrested two suspects,” the statement continued.
The arrested individuals were identified as 42-year-old Kolawole Moshood, a resident of Olomoyeye Muslim Area, Ibadan, and 45-year-old Opeyemi Kuburat from Beyerunka Area, Ibadan.
Police also recovered a Nissan Almera vehicle with Lagos registration number FST 779 DL, allegedly used in the gang’s operations. During interrogation, the suspects reportedly admitted to deceiving and robbing multiple victims using the car.
“Three victims have so far come forward to identify the suspects as those who robbed them of their belongings on different occasions,” Osifeso noted.
The police said efforts are ongoing to apprehend additional gang members and recover other items linked to their criminal activities. Authorities also urged other victims to report to assist with the investigation and possible prosecution.
“The Oyo State Police Command reiterates its unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and security of residents across the state,” the statement added.
